I'm looking for a little guidance from you computer pro's out there.  I want to build a new rig, but I don't want to drop tons of cash right away.  This being said, does it make sense to spend the dough on a good motherboard and PSU, and upgrade from there?  I have my eye on a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813141005.  The downside is that I don't see as much room for memory upgrades, because it wouldn't be able to support DDR3.

I'm thinking then I'd start with an inexpensive dual core, with the ability to upgrade to a quad core down the road.  Also, the three SLI PCIe 2.0 slots would let me start with a good graphics card, but would allow a lot of room for upgrades too.

Any other suggestions or things I'm missing?

My advice, if you want quality, and you want some bang for your buck, go top of the range for a motherboard. It controls the entire machine, and if you buy some pissy 90 dollar copy of a name brand, you know your in for some trouble times ahead, but if you spend 200-400 (no more then that unless you want lots of useless crap) you know you get value for your money.

I myself am going to get a nForce 680i SLI 775 Black Pearl   (linkhttp://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=122-CK-NF69-A1   its close enough, i cant be bothered finding the specific board at 7am =p) it was bought brand new 700 AUD, never used, im buying it for 250.

basicly, if you want value for you hard earned greens, but still want to be able to buy food, go as cheap, but as high as you want. if that makes sense. dont go nuts, be sensible
