Title: Show us your UI!
Post by: Shadowwolf on June 17, 2006, 08:38:16 AM
Show us your UI and the mods you use. I always find it interesting to see how other people lay out their interface for WoW.

Here's mine... not nearly as modified as others, and optimized for as little mouse interaction as possible (since I can't use one yet due to my shoulder and the laptop's touchpad isn't as easy to use).

Titan Panel
    * Standard Distributed Plugins

Standalone Mods
    * Benecast - Cast icons next to party members to eliminate the need to target seperate people
    * BestBuff- Casts the highest rank spell mapped to one icon for persons level (seems to only work in conjunction with Benecast for me)
    * AdSpace - Tooltip display of recipies and where they can be vendor purchased and for how much
    * CallToArms - worldwide LFG program to easily find PUGs
    * Sanity - Multi-character inventory tracker
    * Decursive - very very very handy for anyone with Cure Poison/Disease/Curse/etc.
    * MetaMap - like Atlas, but I had this one first and it let me put notes on any map =)
    * FlightMap - Adds a tooltip to the world map showing flightpaths into and out of regions, and region level ranges.
    * HealPoints - calculates how many hit points you can heal before going oom
    * GuildRoster - my tweaked guild roster export util
    * QuestLevel - displays the quests highest level opponent in

BarMod - action bars (movable)
MasterMod - core system of CT (a basic UI panel for all CT mods as well as some smaller mods like chat timestamp, cast timer display, etc)
PartyBuffs - shows all buffs and debuffs on party members, not just the first 5
TimerMod - Just that, a timer.

Screenie to be edited on later.

I need to find a way to convert the file type of my screenies.  They automatically save as Paint Shop Pro 7 images, even though my trial period of PSP7 has elapsed.  The only program I have that can open them is Quicktime Player, and since I don't have the pro version, I can't even save them as a different file type  ::)

Here's a link to a simple TGA -> JPG converter.

hrm, I should re-post my UI, it's change quite a bit since I did that last.  later tho, now it's WoW time :)

Np un4. :)

I've updated my UI quite a bit with most of the downloads offered on the Twilight sight plus a few others like IgnoreMore and a max crit counters, and a few others that do not affect UI.  CT_RaidAssist , Bongos, Decursive, BestBuff, Benecast/GroupHealing(for priest), and Atlas are the major ones you see.

One other UI modification I would recommend is to change the background transparency of the chatbox to about 60%.  I tried it out first on raids like the one pictured, but have decided to keep it permanently for all my adventuring because this way I have a much easier time reading chat when it's not subject to being hidden by background colors that happen to blend in too well with Party/Raid colors.

Bongos is a great addon for anyone with too many abilities to have "on demand" or too many trinkets to keep track of so you can easily see what's in cooldown and what you're wearing.

Shadow's v2

Got tired of clutter and thought going the compact route might be a good thing. I still have 180 mods running, lol, but they are all nice and neat. I also got fed up looking for a package or something that I liked. Instead of doing that I thought id create my own jumble of stuff myself. Seems to be going well so far, have a peek.

Bongos Minimap portion allowed me to move it, Squeenix  (http://www.wowace.com/files/Squeenix/)made it square, and Detached Minimap Buttons (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info5367-DetachedMiniMapButtons.html) let me move the buttons all over, Buffalo (http://www.wowace.com/files/Buffalo/) let me reposition my buff/debuffs and SeriousBuffTimers (http://www.wowace.com/files/SeriousBuffTimers/) is what gives me the exact countdowns on them.

cr_Viewport (http://www.wowace.com/forums/index.php?topic=2056.0) which gives the black portion on the bottom isnt exactly "user friendly" and theres no way to configure it through WoW, you need to manually edit the files. Im told CT_Viewport will do the same but allow an easier time configuring it.

ag_unitframes (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info5468-agUnitFrames.html) is a little better than that with configs, but not by a whole lot. I got frustrated with X-Perl as its too flashy for me and I wasnt happy with its raid layout in the slightest. =P Im using 3 addons with ag; 1 that add a casting bar on target frames (mEnemyCastbar (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info5488-mEnemyCastbar.html)),  1 that changes the color of the player frames based on who has aggro (aUF_Banzai (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info5858-aUFBanzai.html)), and 1 that checks range for things like healing, etc (aUF_RangeCheck (http://www.wowace.com/files/aUF_RangeCheck/)).

I attached another cap with some arrows showing whats what.

UI again, this time with some more addons and a little bit more cleanup.

And the bar you see at the bottom is semi-custom graphic by me and im using ElectrofluxTextronator (http://www.wowace.com/files/ElectrofluxTextronator/) to display it and adjust the View Port settings. Previously I was using CT_ViewPort but its very bland and basic and doesnt allow you to display a graphic overlay.

I also use Cartographer, Bigwigs, Littlewigs, and just about everything on our download section.

My UI. One for raid and the other for party.

I use (off the top of my head)
-Bongos2
-Titan panel
-Square minimap
-PallyPower
-perl classic frames (seems to run smoother for me than xperl)
-CT Raid
-Used to use Critline but I lagged whenever I made a new record and got the notification
-Prat
-Outiftter
-MobInfo 2
-Elk Buff Bar
-MIK scrolling combat text
-The Threat meter is disabled... as a pally healer, I dont really get aggro (lol... I tank more mobs than tanks in PUG groups)

To Gutboy: on the bottom left of the AB photo, you said SS or it didn't happen... well... that just happened... shake and bake!

Which mod gives you the buttons and the minimap in the center of your screen at the bottom? (seen in JR and Shadow's UIs)

Bongos2 lets you move the minimap and I use "Square Minimap" to make it square shaped. I think shadow uses Squeenix, a much more in depth add-on the mine.

Does Bongos2 also let you move the action bars around the minimap? That's what I was actually asking but didn't do it very clearly.
Title: Re: Show us your UI!
Post by: Kothnok on February 01, 2008, 04:22:02 PM
Bongos2 (with all it's supporting addons) allows you to move all button bars (there's 10), the loot roller window, the xp bar, pet bar, casting bar, and the minimap around to anywhere on the screen that you wish.  Squeenix isn't needed, but I was using it before Bongos2 and still do use it.  So if you want to move your minimap and then put your bars around it, Bongos2 will let you do that.
Title: Re: Show us your UI!
Post by: Shadowwolf on February 01, 2008, 06:04:27 PM
Squeenix for the map and DetachedMinimapButtons. I dont use Bongos2's Minimap frame to move it because it moved the pvp capping bar down there too then you cant see it. Yes and Bongos2 for Action Bar setup and placement.

Is there a good pvp add on that works kind of like decursive, by that i mean highlights those that are closest to you and shows their health
Title: Re: Show us your UI!

I use some addons with ag_UF for that, auf_RangeCheck fades out the icons of anyone not in my range

Here's my UI - still a work in progress, but I like the way it's starting to look:

Primary mods I'm using are:

Bar/Frame Mods:
- Bartender3
- XPerl
- Bagnon (not shown)
- XLoot (not shown)
- Prat

Map Mods:
- Squeenix
- DetachedMinimapButtons
- Cartographer (not shown)

Combat Mods:
- Decursive
- Big/LittleWigs (not shown)
- Omen (not shown)

Other Random Stuff
- ClosetGnome (not shown) - quick-changer for druid gear; like the way it works better than wardrobe did
- AckisRecipeList (not shown) - used for my alt's alchemy to show what recipes I don't have yet
- ItemSync - used mainly for looking up random items to see what the stats are
- Sanity (not shown) - collects all your items across all your characters in the same realm together. Great for those "oh crap" moments when you can't remember which alt you left your enchanting mats on =P
- CML - "Clock Memory Latency" replaces the default latency/memory bar - I like it better because it's an at-a-glance thing as opposed to having to mouse over the lat. bar to see exactly where I am

Updated the Ol' UI... and this thread is always full of awesome so I'm bringin it back!

First SS: Sort of labeled what everything is with some fancy MS Paint work (everything that's visible at least... about a million other mods that you can't see)
Second SS: What it looks like in a raid and such. (Yes I did have to time it against a weakened mob... might as well get some shameless "go me" in there)

I need a bigger monitor....

I really like the look of the UIs with the self/mob bars at the bottom of the screen, but my monitor isn't (big/wide) enough for me to warrant shifting the screen up. Awesome new look, JR!

Well here goes...my first attempt at really making a functional UI...borne of procrastination+boredom+lag hell.  If those three ingredients hadn't been forced upon me by fate while offshore this time around, i'd probably never have done this.

Here are the addons i used to put this together (can't wait to get home and do this on the biggish-screen computer or even one for my 32" samsung):

Alar:ArtRemover (not sure if i even need this now...installed it early on in my experimenting today)
Aperture - viewpoint addon
AzCastBar - adjusts cast bars such as feign death, exhaustion from swimming, etc.
Bartender3 - actionbar placement/resizing addon
Buffalo - buff/debuff positioning addon
CT_Partybuffs - displays the little buff icons on party members' headshots :P
Minimap Button Frame - (my favorite) gathers all your minimap buttons into a single frame - i placed the toggle button to show/hide this frame in the bottom right corner of the minimap
Omen2 - threatmeter
Prat 2.0 - just installed it to check it out...didn't really need it but looks handy enough to keep
SCT - scrolling combat text - i display very little from the core of sct except warnings, etc., i've got it's hud radius much shorter than my sctd radius
SCTD - i like to see the dmg i do...i usually set it up a bit more translucent than this though.
Squeenix - Turns the minimap into a square and lets me resize it
Titan Panel - I use everything you see up top from titan.

Other stuff i use but you can't see:
Cartographer
Atlasloot
Bigwigs/Littlewigs/babywigs
Auctioneer
Outfitter
...i've got more on the home computer, just can't think of them off the top of my head right now

Goals for later revisions:
incorporating some kind of unit frames and/or grid to try and free up some more space in raids

Hey, I welcome any comments or tips - this is my first time and welcome any advice you may have.   O0

Sounds like you need to run WoW as Administrator.  Do you run with Vista by any chance? If so, try to right click the program and choose Run as Administrator and see if that fixes your problem of things getting reset when you log.

I've refined mine a bit more and also changed the cursor to something a bit more visible.  During some fights, the standard "gauntlet" cursor gets lost and when that happens, I can't heal anyone until I can find it again. (I'm posting another thread on the cursor if you're interested in it).

Just finished Redoing some things and tweaking: Visible addons are labeled on the picture (God I love the 22" widescreen running at 1680x1050). The ones you can't see are:

Aloft (for name plate sexiness)
Atlasloot
Auctioneer
Bagnon
Bigwigs
Bugsack
ButtonFacade (you can see it, it's how the Bartender buttons are skinned like they are)
CowTip (For sweet tooltips)
Examiner
Gladius (The new sweet Arena mod for targeting) >:(
OmniCC
Outfitter
Quartz
Rating Buster
Smartres
Talented
Xloot
YurrCombatLog (visible in raids since i tab from guild chat tab to combat log for bosses)

Most of them are cosmetic (Xloot, Aloft, CowTip) since blizz frames are clunky and not customizable as far as location goes.

I looked around for a sweet package but those are a PITA to config sometimes and couldn't find one i liked.

If you have suggestions for improvement, fire away!

AG unit frames lets you make the healthbars like that, it lets you put whatever you want on health and mana bars. It unfortunately does not have its own separate cast bar.

Rawr!

Updated Aggi's UI since she's getting into the big leagues of tanking. Picked up Elk's Buff Bars and Runewatch, and futzed around with my usual bartender setup. Enjoy!

The top SS is in-combat and the bottom one is out of combat.

I've mentioned it in guild chat, but there's a really nice compilation called Arkive UI that I'm using currently... Here's a screenie (don't have one in raid yet, so you'll have to look those up yourself)...

Love it, how do you change the prat to do only one size text?

if you type /prat in the chat window, you can go to Font under the Display Settings tab. From there, you can set the font size for any of the frames you use.

So, I have been using a few UI compilations. While they are nice, there are always things that I need or dont need, so I decided to build my own.

I downloaded the package Tony recommended, but other then using what someone else likes, wheres a good place to start to get my own up and going?

<EDIT>
Scrap that, got rid of it, too much stuff in there that i dont think i want.

Im starting with bartender, suggestions on where to go next?

I think an action bar mod is the most crucial change, I can't stand the default organization, so Bartender is a good start.

For general cleanliness I like a few things:

Prat - It's got a ton of features for customizing the chat box exactly the way you want it, essentially makes the chat box usable.

Some sort of unit frame mod, whether its ag_Unitframes or Xperl or whatever, will help you clean up a lot of wasted space. Take a look at some screenshots of the different unit frame modes and see which style appeals to you the most, just keep in mind that generally you can organize them however you'd like on your screen. I use ag_Unitframes.

I also like Titan Panel, or FuBar, for consolidating information like money, bag space, location, framerate & latency, and both of these have functionality with a lot of other popular mods to provide info on a small top and/or bottom bar.

Some people are minimalists and want as little clutter on their screen as possible, I tend to have way too much happening on my screen in terms of mods and info. Getting started with a unit frame mod will give you a better idea of exactly what you want in the end.

@ Shadow - I see that you just installed Grid, and I am almost positive that you also keybind. This might be a bit of an adjustment for you, but if I can so humbly suggest that by adding Clique to Grid, you actually eliminate a sequence that takes 2 steps and combine it into one.

Currently - You click on the raid frame, and then press a key. Correct?

Grid + Clique - You left click, right click, for your main healing spells (for me it's LHW left click, Riptide right click) and then have modifiers for your other spells.

I'm not going to pretend I know how to heal using a druid, but I do know that using those particular addons, it cut my reaction time literally in half. Grid also allows you to have small icons to show you who is effected by your HOTS. I know that was huge for me. It also allows you to keep your target targeted. If you have your main tank as your target, you "clique" on grid without changing targets. I'm sure you already know this, but I just wanted to let you know in case you didn't.

No.  I use ag_unitframes as well and it works just like Grid.  Mouse hover over the person and click the button to cast your heal on that person without changing your target.  I use it all the time when I'm healing a specific raid member.  This way I can always cast my healing spells using the hotkeys on them and I can spot heal others with ease using the mouse.

Not sure about Shadow's, but you can setup Grid to show hottimers in the different areas of the frames (like a number in each corner of the unitframe - one hot per corner), and even set up the timers colors to represent the number of blooms you have stacked.  Grid's ridiculously customizable, but comes pretty plain jane straight outa the box - so most people pass it up b/c it isn't as shiny as what they're used to when first installed.  Don't want hottimers...then buffs maybe...or setup debuffs to completely color frames and link it to a hotkey that's mouseover controlled and completely do away with decursive's frames if you wanted to.

Add to that how unbelievably lightweight it is and you have yourself a major winning addon imo.

Im not a fan of Grid's HoT time display. Its simplistic yes, and for some that might be nice, but I like to see timers on things so I can better plan my casts, the best I could get Grid to do is show color dots or colorize the border of someone when the HoT is up which is a little too basic for me.

Ok, to answer some questions about Pitbull, here's the current layout I have in my UI... This is displaying a 25-person raid, but the grid expands and collapses so it looks the same for 5-man or 25-man raiding.. it just adds columns.

In 40-man raids, I have to hide Skada to make room for everyone, but I don't do much 40-man raiding... so it's all good.
