Title: Wow
Post by: Khanus on November 15, 2006, 05:18:18 PM
For the past few days I've let my friend, who is staying with me until he finds a new apartment, play the rogue on my account. He had the entire week off with nothing to do but play wow and looks for a new pad. This morning when I checked my e-mail I got an account closure notice from Blizz due to "usage of third party software". I have no idea what exactly that is as far as wow goes but I can only assume it is a severe infraction as my account has been permanently banned from use. I tried calling and e-mailing blizzard the call ended in a slightly less than polite woman telling me to send an e-mail to the link in the e-mail I recieved, and the e-mail told me to go screw myself but in more eloquent words, so regardless I'm pretty bummed. Most of you just met me a short while ago, but I've been playing Wow almost since its inception, about a year and a half out of the games 2 year life span. Until joining this guild I rarely ever did end-game instances usually doing pvp or just starting a new toon realitivly soon after hitting 60. I'm not entirely sure if I'm going to re-purchase the game and start from square one as it is hard to replace 4 60th lvl characters most of which with decent gear, i may resurect my wife's account and play her rogue, only problem is her rogue is female  :P. I might also just wait for the expansion. I'll keep you posted.

Well, I'd check your computer to see what your friend was using on the account that got you banned. Also, blizz can just ban you outright for account sharing... It sucks, but it is spelled out in the EULA.

Sorry to hear about this--maybe if you can find out exactly what program he was using/what happened you can get things fixed. Keep us posted.

thats strange that they wont even tell you what you "did".

Maybe your friend upset someone in game and they reported you as a bot or something. Even still thats just suspicious to me, that bot in Feralas that fishes is still there no matter how many times Ive reported it.

This is such a shame - hope it sorts out for you & you can get back in the game.

Yeah so I found out my friend was using a Bot program called Glider. Apparently, this is what he told me at least, glider was fairly secure but it seems they found a way to detect the program and tuesday night a whole bunch of people got banned due to its use. I'm kinda dissapointed in my friend that he would put my account and all the time behind it at risk, but it is just a game and I had fun making the toons I had. As of now I've resurected my wife's lvl 40 rogue and I'll be playing that for a while until the expansion comes out I'll make a Denari*sp?* toon. So yeah my toon will be Roxae and it is a female toon so everyone /point /laugh at me :). On the upside my friend gave me $100 bucks and filled my Truck up with gas. I'll look for an officer sometime tonight or tomorrow to get an inv to Twilight.

And also there is absolutly no hope of getting my old toons back, e-mail'd blizz and called again and basically once again was told it isnt going to happen.

this person was living in your place, playing your game that they had no account on and installed a bot program for the one week they played it?  you may want to re-evaluate the word "friend".  i would be much more guarded about your accounts in the future.

-Thanks for the inv Dvalin :)

-Yeah I use to work with him a while back when I was still cooking. He and I started playing wow together a year and a half or so ago. He and I spent a lot of time playing together going for pvp ranks. He worked a lot less than me and got to Grand Marshal I only got to marshal before I started lvling off at about 5% in because I couldnt spend enough time on the game to beat the decay. He cancled his subscription a short while after he got GM (I dunno why if I had GM claymore or any of the other GM weps I'd sure as heck play with em for a while). Well he broke up with his girlfriend and I let him stay with me til he got his place and I guess he was possesed to install a botting program and play with it. Yeah kinda sucks, yeah not very cool of him, but I'm not all that mad. Overall the 100 bucks and a free tank of gas was nice and he offered me his old account if I wanted, but I'd rather just play my wife's rogue until the expansion comes out. Maybe after I get her rogue to 60 with some good lewt she'll want to play again :) He moved out today though...wife is happy :) I told alot of my co-workers who also play wow but on different servers and they were all suprised how calm I was about it, I think everyone has been suprised. They all suspected me to get furious or somthing.

-In Case anyone wonders the severity of my loss I'll list it for S&G:
.:On My Old Server:.
Marshal Hunter 60th lvl
Lock 60th lvl nothing too special no good gear just a mix of blue and greens
.:On This Server:.
Leiutenant Commander Warrior with Unstoppable Force +25 Agi (He was nice :P)
5/8 Tier 0 Pally 60th lvl

And a bunch of random alts

Only thing I'm gunna miss is my epic AV mount and Epic Pally mount they were both so cool!

It is nice to see you taking it so calmly as thats a lot of time and effort on your main that was lost. It is just a game, and yes it sucks, but like you said, not much can be done about it now so better to learn from the experience and go back to the enjoyment.

heh i agree with shadow, its a game we'll all eventually leave, my chars aren't my babies or anything im not going to go crazy if one day i decide i dont really want to play wow anymore despite the months of time i put into growing those chars....its just a long game that ends when you want it to :p

Whoa, wait a second. If my brother logs into my computer using his account name because his computer is in the shop getting fixed, does that mean I may get banned too?

no, if you each have an account name, you aren't sharing an account

the only way blizzard could catch you for sharing an account is if say...you've been logged on for 3 days almost straight...that would bring suspicion but even then...you'd prolly have to stay logged on for quite a loooong time before they inquired more about it.

We both have different accounts and different game copies. I just thought with him over here that it would be against the rules. Oh well.
