Title: This board needs more awesome
Post by: Gutboy on October 17, 2007, 01:36:38 AM
OK, so the page of 3000 WoW icons was pretty cool...

http://www.wowwiki.com/WoWWiki:WoW_Icons/Icon_List/Images

But now you need more?

Check out this thread on the official forums:

This guy made a list of ALL the sound files in the game, in macro form, such as:

/script PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Creature\\BlackheartTheInciter\\Auch_Blckhrt01_Aggro02.wav")

(go on, paste it into the chat window...  ;D)

So that's pretty cool, but you still have to find the right filenames in that huge list, and it's a pain to play them one at a time in game, right?

Well that's where the awesome comes in. Turns out, all you need is an MPQ file extractor, and you can pull ALL the sounds and other resources right out of your own copy of the game! This I have done, thanks to:

http://osx.iusethis.com/app/mpqextractor (Yes it's Mac-only. Get your own.  ;))

and now I have 12GB of WoW resources to play with! Much easier to find the sounds you need for macros. (Not to mention playing them over voice chat, using them as system alert sounds, ringtones, etc...) Even better, if you want to also browse the texture files, get something that reads BLP files, like:

http://blp.dynalias.net/Public/BLP_Viewer/BLP_Viewer.php

Most of the textures look funny, like someone's face flattened out, but they're still cool to look at.

I will update this post if I discover other cool things; meanwhile, have fun!
