Title: Too damn hot...
Post by: Shadowwolf on June 10, 2008, 02:16:46 PM
Way too damn hot...

[attach=1]

on an unrelated matter, this persons front tire caught my eye as I was walking into the store today.

[attach=2]

What disgusted me the most about this was it was on a minivan with a car seat in it. Way to put not only their life in danger but the kids also. Absolutely no tread left on either of the front tires.

Reminds me of a few years ago, i aproached the post office when there was an ambulance, and people crowded by a car and when i asked what happened they said apparently a women left her child in the car seat alone (and it was extremely hot out),and the baby was gasping for air and they were rushing the baby to the hospital.i asked a day or two later and the baby was fine but mother had been arrested.

Seeing someone's tire look like that makes my skin crawl.

True story.

In Ohio, during a bad rain storm, I had about a half a dime's tread on my tires, which is low, and I was going about 60 on the highway, getting passed up left and right so it wasn't like I was speeding, but I hydroplaned off the road doing a 360 and smacking into the start of a guardrail.  I was perfectly fine when I emerged from the accident, but I hurt myself running FROM the accident which is another story.

Point of my story:  even with a little tread, it is still so easy to lose control of your car under hazardous conditions.  Without any tread, this person is depending on the little metal shavings from the insides of the tires to grip the road...

Actually on a hot dry road that tire has the most grip. Much like a race car "slick" there is a small phase in the life of a tire where it will have the most grip just before the last of the "good" rubber is gone. Of course if it rains a drop they're dead and its very unsafe to be driving regular roads in that condition.

The treads on a tire channel the rain, snow, and debris away from the tire. Its the amount of rubber on the road that gives the mechanical grip.

Who the heck gets any MPG while idling, and where can I buy a car like that?

You can still calculate mpg at idle. Technically it would be hpg but you can still calculate it.

Name of the satellite radio channel. They call it Lucy. Plays songs from the 80's-00's

http://xmradio.com/onxm/channelpage.xmc?ch=54

The center screen shows the name of the station, source of audio and preset selection if there is one at the very top. Below that is the outside temp and alert systems (washer fluid, low fuel, etc) and below that is the MPG computer which shows current calculated mpg, range on current fuel total, hours running, average speed and average mpg, then below that is the gear the car is in. Shows 1-6 when I have it in manual mode, "S" is for sport and what Audi describes as used for "Enthusiastic Driving" =)

I love that term to describe speeding "Enthusiastic Driving". The car changes gears automatically still but shifts at higher rpm's maximizing power output.

The car has a DSG transmission

They do make a wagon model  ]:D

they just call it the "Avant" probably to make the husbands who buy one feel better about owning a wagon, haha
