I'm a little broke, but my warlock now has his dreadsteed. However, need to make up for the cash I spent. I was farming SM this afternoon on my shaman and came up with about 5 gold in stuff (cleared graveyard and cath). Not great. Any other ideas? Someone told me you can make 100g per hour in that place, so I tried it out, because of the not so great luck I've had getting arcane crystals and the plummeting herb prices (damn gold farmers). Someone told me why everything is so cheap is because they're preparing for when the BC comes out, but it's not out yet, so there's no need to charge 6-8g for black lotus or 10g for a stack of dreamfoil or any high end herb like that. You try to jack the price back up to 20g and you're gonna be wasting it on AH fees and stuff because no one wants to buy your stuff.

I generally make 8-10g/run in the SM.  I've found that ZF and AV quests are great moneymakers though.

one way ive found to make money but sometimes takes alot of killing is to kill air elementals in sylithus they drop enough essence of air and it sells quite well for some good gold at the ah to make it worth the trouble that is one thing ive found that works for me and ive had a epic drop off one to so if your lucky u might get more than u expected to witch is always great so good luck making gold  i need to do it more thats for sure

Some gold farming tip sites say humanoids are the best to farm because they give cloth, coin, and even the odd item.

The Hinterlands can be good for farming, up in the temples.

I use my credit card and support the sweat shops in China. ]:D

Just kidding. I kill low level elites (lvl 50-57 scarlet guys in epl and dragonkin in azshara/burning steppes) in different areas. They generally drop a lot of greens and occasional blue/epic and drop between 5-20 silver each.

Searing gorge mobs have decent loot as well.

one little known secret about Strat / Scholo / LBRS / UBRS is that most of the grey items that drop sell for at LEAST 1G, and most people pass on picking these up. I usually get about 25+G per one of these runs just from selling items to vendors plus loot share...

Weapons tend to sell for a lot everywhere.

I found an eye of flame for cheap, but can't seem to get it to sell. That also goes for my Twilight Cultist Ring of Lordship. Had it since Dotmaster was level 1. Won't sell in the trade channel, or if I put it in the AH for no buyout. Should I vendor it? Going to try some Silithus farming tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

weekends are the best time to sell the pricey stuff ive found. Generally I post something for Friday night, early, like 6PM server if I can, let it ride, if it doesnt sell in 24hrs, i report dropping the price by 5% and keep that up till Tuesday's maintenance window. Sometimes it doesnt go the first weekend, but usually by weekend 2 its sold.

I'm lazy. If I have something on AH and it doesn't sell within 24hrs and I get it back, I vendor it. Then I go out and kill more stuff. This morning alone I made 5g (not including the minor items I put on AH that sold almost immediately). Let's say I went from 4g to 15g in an hour alone. Leather, trash greens, etc. And the coin that dropped off the mobs I was killing was between 5-20s.

Well, I know I have made some great money (XP too) grinding in ungoro.  Depending on your trade skills, killing and skinning dino's and bats works, as does mining and picking up un'goro soil.  There is great money when you are lucky grinding the Tar lords [wowitem]living essence[/wowitem] and Living Blaze [wowitem]essence of fire[/wowitem].  Of those, I can run around on wrathency and kill 3-4 of the tar lords between drinks.  I usually pickup a couple of essences per hour plus some valuable herbs ([wowitem]gromsblood[/wowitem], [wowitem]dreamfoil[/wowitem] etc).  Off hours, the fire elementals are fairly easy to take down, although there tend to be lots of bots and farmers who are doing the same thing.  There are a couple of rich thorium nodes that spawn in the center area that make it an attractive place to pickup things.

I have heard that SM Graveyard is a good place to look for twink BOE blues.  I know someone picked up 100+g worth of items in one run.  That said, you could probably go through sevral times with nothing.  I cant say that I have ever done this though

With enchanting, even DM can be fun... DE any blues and you can be out in about 15-25 minutes.  Heck, if you have the bag space, the cloth and greens will vendor for several gold.

With Fused wiring at 10g+, gnomer can be profitable to go through.  Best to go with a friend to reduce the risk of a wipe.  Helpful to have an enchanter to DE of course.

Harder fights, but fighting north of lights hope chapel (in and around the Zigguraut structures) I usually get a major mana/healing potions, some greens and trash loot that makes it a reasonable place to make money.  It is a great place to grind for AD rep, even waiting between battlegrounds or for instance/raid to get together [wowitem]Invader's Scourgestone[/wowitem].

For the lucky person, grinding for rare recipes/items can be profitable, i.e. Crusader enchant (Tower in WPL), Greater intell enchant (Temple in Hinterlands), arcanite dragonling (dragons in Wintersping), Greater Frost Protection potion (Frostmuls in Winterspring), emerald dragonling (swamp of sorrows)

Finally, AD turnin items are going up in price... grinding for dark iron scraps (camps of blackrocks in burning steppes) and skeletal fragments (skellies in andohall) can make money, although I use mine  ;D
