I think that sound clip was really sad - that guy sounded like a 5 yr old having a tantrum.
But I reckon it is hard for kids whose parents don't understand the dynamics of the game.
I warn my son what time dinner is- and that he has to tell his party that he has to leave a certain time- that makes it easier for everyone involved. if I didn't play wow- I wouldn't understand how instances work and the importance of not letting friends down..

I like the first article though- but not enough was said about mother/son time  :)

hehehe...yeah....although historically dads get shafted. I know that my wife is a workaholic, and I am caring for our kids most of the time...its a HUGE responsibility, and something I try to work hard at every day...I know other people in the guild like threl or lynn do the same...

Great article, Arc. I found it very interesting and couldn't agree with it more. As you well know, anything you can do to get closer to your kids is very important. I figure that an hour spent with my kids now may stave off a day of trouble a few years down the road, if that makes sense.

Even now, when my daughter doesn't agree with me...which at 12 going on 30 can be several times a day, the foundation of love and understanding gets us through it (even when she didn't understand why I had a cerebral hemorrhage when a high school boy called her). ;) I do all I can to make sure it'll stay that way. Gaming with her and my son gives us a chance to talk and a chance for them to show the old man how poorly his hand-eye coordination and reflexes are fairing into his 40s! LOL!  ;D

Now if I can only survive the dating years...

I don't have any kids but from my point of view, if I trust my kid enough and see that they have a good head on their shoulders I wouldn't worry too much about what they do.

I agree Geno. Yet as I tell my kids...it's the world I don't trust, not them. And let's face it, don't we all have things we look back on in our wilder years and wonder how we survived at least a few lapses in judgement? I know I had a few friends who did not survive those times.  I know, too, that my kids will have them...it's a part of growing up.

To me, it's all a matter of making sure the kids make it to a point where they have enough life experiences to handle the majority of what the world can throw at them. The older they get, the more say they have in what they do in their own lives. At 12 they may be mature and very intelligent, but they do not have the years of living it takes to deal with the hazards of real-life. Heck, I'm pushing 43 and I'm not sure I have enough.  ;D

And Mur? I have a shotgun, 2 rifles, a pistol...and a shovel. ;D

I don't need the firearms - I simply have allowed my son to see exactly what we do to drunk/high/infected kids that come to the ER. Amazing how that works esp since I tell him it is his decision just be ready for the results.  ]:D
My son has shared his "insights" with his friends, so I have a entire group of kids who are afraid of seeing me at  work. ::)

That's perfect, Jan. Talk about being proactive! Can I ship my two up you way for a tour? It might also help me stay out of Federal Prison for using those guns.  ;D

Hah! Well played. Part of my own EMT training was to spend 40 hours or so in a hospital, assisting the nurses with patients and learning my way around the equipment. What I saw there was enough to keep me away from the unsavories throughout the rest of my highschool career!
