No matter how often you refill the gene pool, there's always a shallow end.

Normally I refrain from the more purely social threads, but I couldn't resist on this one. I can appreciate music of all kinds, but I'll list a few favorites:

1) First, I love flute music....classical, jazz, celtic...you name it and I like it. I can listen to a Matt Malloy (of the Chieftains) flute solo and never get tired of it.

2) I like Metal of many varieties: Iron Maiden, Metallica, Pantera, Fear Factory, Stemm, Triumph

3) I still love classical rock, but especially Led Zeppelin, April Wine, Rush, Saxon, very old Van Halen, Judas Priest

4) I enjoy odd genres of music like Brazilian/African "Capoeira" music...very earthy, very primal, and very good.

5) I enjoy classical Catholic Music/Hyms as well as Gregorian Chant.

6) I like a few 80s bands/artists like Loverboy, Rainbow, Dio, Journey, etc.

8) Finally, I enjoy Enya, John Legend, Classical Funk, surfer punk (like Man or Astroman)

Does anyone here listen to any screamo/hardcore?  If not, you all should.  Screamo is most definitley NOT a genre for just goth kids that like to cut themselves.  In fact, the original screamo band (Underoath) is Christian and has a really powerful positive message.  If you want tto hear some great bands check out Underoath (pretty hardcore, takes some getting used to, try "Some Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape"), Silverstein (great band, really catchy, listen to "Worlds Apart", "Smile in Your Sleep", and "My Heroine"), Emery (best band ever, start with this one if you've never listened to screamo before, best songs are "World Away", "The Weakest", "Listening to Freddy Mercury", and "Fractions"), Scary Kids Scaring Kids, and National Product.  You'll have to get used to screaming as a musical device, some "screamers" are better than others, so go with Emery first, then progress to Silverstein and Underoath.  Screaming is awesome because it packs a ton of emotion in to a song that a voice can't express by itself.  The downside is that you often can't understand the lyrics, but it is more about the music then about what they are saying.  If you want to hear a really good Emery Song, check out my MySpace (www.myspace.com/brettmason11)

Underoath is pretty awesome, favorite song would have to be Writing on the Walls. I like pretty much any kind of rock, more into metal i guess like DragonForce, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for My Valentine. The foreign metal bands are pretty much my favorites. Although the band i've been into the most lately has been abingdon boys school. They have a great sound. :)

those are a couple ive been listening to lately.

Thane

and lets not forget tom pettys "wildflowers".

every song is so good.

Trismus

Thane, I gotta give you props for that.

Tom Petty is one of my all time favorites.

However, my favorite Artist of all time is Tool
Favorite song is a tie between Eric Clapton's "Layla", Tom Petty's "Honey Bee", and Metallica's "Wherever I may Roam" - although I'd like to preface by saying that my favorites are by no means static.
The album that I consider to be the best piece of music I've ever heard is "Lateralus" by Tool. It is almost unrivaled in complexity, sophistication, depth, and beauty. It is nothing short of a masterpiece.

There are many, MANY more artists and songs I love, however, and I used to be a Music Business Major interning at Atlantic Records NYC... I listen to almost every genre.
Most people think Marv is crazy. He just had the rotten luck of being born in the wrong century. He'd be right at home on some ancient battlefield swinging an axe into somebody's face.

The Band

QFT, my friend. Love 'em - been listening to The Last Waltz lately =)

Also on my mix list for the day:

- Resident Evil 1,2,3 soundtracks (great for white noise working music - listen to those when I need to drown out the surrounding area without paying too much attention to the lyrics)
- Smash Mouth's Astro Lounge (Just a fun album to listen to =) catchy, groovy, and for the most part, mellow)
- G. Love and Special Sauce (It's G. Love! 'Nuf said ^_^)
- Yoko Kanno (I'm a sucker for the Japanese jazzy/wacky music. Very easy to listen to  :))
- Marc Broussard (Louisiana Bajou groove - wonderfully written songs, on par with Jack Johnson and G. Love)

Gutboy

Based on sheer number of CDs, I guess the top 3 are Mozart, Bob Marley, and Elvis Costello. And way too much 80's New wave.  8) Plus the group of female singer-songwriters like Indigo Girls, Shawn Colvin, Suzanne Vega, etc. Others worth noting from my iTunes library:

- Crystal Method
- English Beat
- Kassav' (from the islands, bonus points if anyone's heard of them)
- Peter Gabriel
- Public Enemy
- Neville Brothers
- Howard Shore's LOTR music (complete ROTK coming out next week!)
- Talking Heads
- Cirque du Soleil soundtracks
- Orange Tree Productions nature music (http://www.orangetreeproductions.com/)
