Introduction

Inscription is a new profession being added to World of Warcraft in the latest content patch 3.0.2 (coming in 14 October 2008) and Wrath of the Lich King expansion (coming in 13 November 2008)

So far, Inscription allows a player to create the following:

Inks from Pigments, used as Reagents in other Inscription recipes.
Create scrolls for enchanters, allowing them to sell their enchants in the Auction House(Example).
Scrolls that increase stats (Example).
Runes that can be applied to a player's Glyph Interface to boost spell effects or make cosmetic changes.
Runewords which can be applied to pieces of armor as a form of temporary enchant.
Runes of Power that act as offensive/damage spells, consuming Inscription-based Reagents (like Inks). (Example)
Scrolls of Recall that function similar to Hearthstones, but are like the Engineering transporter where it has unpredictable results. (IE a hearth is set to Shattrath and a Scroll of Recall will take a person to Gadgetzen)
Various Card items. (Example)
Special shoulder armor enchant available only to Inscribers (Example) more..
Create BOP Off Hand items available only to Inscribers (Example) more..
Many recipes require an Inking Set. This is the Scribe's version of a Jewelcrafter's Grinder or a Blacksmith's Hammer.

Inscription relies primarily on Herbalism as its gathering Profession counterpart. In order to produce Inks, a player uses the Inscription ability Milling, which consumes 5 herbs of the same type and creates various Pigments, depending on the type of herbs that were Milled. (Similar to a Jewelcrafter's Prospecting ability.) Herbs now show the Inscription skill level needed to mill that particular herb on their in-game tooltip, and the types of herb needed to make each pigment is in the pigment tooltip in the Inscription Interface (Example)

Glyphs

Glyphs are items which an individual applies to improve certain spells. For example, a Hunter might apply a glyph that increases the number of snakes produced by their Snake Trap. The glyph enhances an existing spell.

Each glyph can only be used by members of one class. Some glyphs also require the user to have reached a certain personal ((character)) level. You do not need to be an Inscriber to use glyphs: Only to make them.

Inscribers can create glyphs for all classes. Once created, these glyphs can be traded or mailed to others. Glyphs remain in your inventory until they are applied (used). Using a glyph destroys it.

Each player can add up to 6 Glyphs to their interface based on their level: Maximum of 3 Major Glyphs and 3 Minor Glyphs.

Level 1-14: None.
Level 15-29: 1 Major, 1 Minor.
Level 30-49: 2 Major, 1 Minor.
Level 50-69: 2 Major, 2 Minor.
Level 70-79: 2 Major, 3 Minor.
Level 80: 3 Major, 3 Minor.
Major Glyphs provide major upgrades to spells. Examples that have been given are the addition of stuns or DoTs to spells, increased damage, or knockbacks.
Minor Glyphs provide small upgrades, or cosmetic improvements. Examples that have been given are the removal of reagent requirements from spells, lowering spell costs, or changing spell graphics.
On the Glyph Interface, the larger circles with gold borders around them are for placement of Major Glyphs and the smaller circles are for Minor Glyphs.

When a player uses a Glyph in their inventory, the Glyph item is destroyed and its inscription effect is placed in one of the appropriate slots. Players can also over-write existing inscriptions. If a player chooses to overwrite an inscription, the old inscription's effect is lost. Requires a Lexicon of Power found next to Inscription Trainers.

Leveling Inscription 1-300

This guide is meant to assist in leveling the new Inscription profession from 1 to 300. (an addition for levels 300-375 will be added once the profession is fully implemented in-game.)

Keep in mind that this is just one recommended leveling route. Everyone levels professions differently. The following is an outline of the quickest, easiest way we've found so far.

Below is a list of current Inscription training NPCs:

Mindri Dinkles - Valgarde (Howling Fjord)
Michael Schwan - Honor Hold (Hellfire Peninsula)
Catarina Stanford - Stormwind City (Mage Quarter)
Elise Brightletter - Ironforge (The Great Forge)
Feyden Darkin - Darnassus (Craftmen's Terrace)

Items Created

Below is a list of items that were created for each step of leveling 1 to 300. Materials required per item are in brackets.

Note: When the ~ symbol appears by a number, that means the number is the approximate amount that should take you up to the listed level. I have rounded up in ever case, so as to avoid listing too few ingredients in this guide. Your results may vary slightly.

Note: This guide uses Druid Glyphs because as of Beta Build 8885, they are the only Glyphs without bugged material costs. Using Glyphs more related to your own class will likely be a viable option once materials costs are fixed.
