This boss is tough, really tough.  He looks a bit like Ragnaros in MC, only white

1. He puts a 15 second debuff on you that works like the Baron Geddon Bomb from Molten core.  So if you get it, get away from the rest of your group, it will do 3k initial damage and will tack on a AOE silence to anyone who gets hit by it.

2.  He does massive explosion that does a very large amount of damage (>8k) and slows everyone hit by it to like 70% of movement speed, so you move REALLY slow.  It is very very important that any melee back out when he casts this.  You can tell its coming because he will emote and the ground will of a sonic wave type look to it.  His attack area is quite large, if you are right next to him, it is a long way to get away from him.  Be as far away as possible when doing melee

3.  Somebody at all times, except when casting his explosion, needs to be in melee range.  If you aren't he will do a ranged aoe attack that deals arcane damage and puts  a debuff on you that increases arcane damage by 2000 or something crazy.

4.  Like Ragnaros he will occasionally pull someone through the air too him.

He does not seem to be resettable, although he does not move from his location.  I ran at least 200 yards away from him (around the corner at the end of the hall) and he still hit me with an arcane missile for 6k, killing me.

He hits hard, very hard.  With only one healer, DPS will basicly be on their own.... bandage/pots/HS when you can.  The tank will get hit by the explosion, and will need to be healed immediately afterward.  If the tank falls, it is likely a wipe.  When the boss is not doing the explosion, he hits for more than 1k DPS.  If the healer gets hit by the silence debuff, it is likely a wipe... bubble if you can, not sure if it is dispellable.

The explosion has a range of <35 yards.  It is thus possible to stand at just less than 40 yards and heal the tank without having to move when the boss emotes he is going to do the explosion attack.

Not sure if the damage is arcane or nature, but resistance gear and protection pots would definitely be useful.

One of the other interesting things we discovered during last night's marathon run (was it really 5 1/2 hours?) was an ingenious method by Lyte of MCing one of the trash mobs to give everyone in the group a resist buff.  It ended up making a big difference during the 2nd boss who MCs the entire group for 15 secs (every 40 secs), and allowed us to resist some of the dmg that Gren was dishing out to the 4 of us.

That was one of the coolest, smartest moves I have witnessed in many years of gaming.

Thanks to all who attended, by the way.  It was a learning experience for most of us and ended up a success, even though we are all sleep deprived today.  The knowledge we gained will undoutedly help the guild as we run this instance repeatedly to get folks keyed up for Karazhan.

I think this is the key to surviving this encounter with 1 healer.  It appeared to me that the healer must get off a heal the instant the 8k dmg is taken by the MT by the boss' sonic boom effect.  If the healer has to move for even 1 second to move closer to the MT, the heal comes too late and the tank dies, resulting in a wipe.

ya Mind control the Cabal Acolytes and you can single buff each person in your group with shadow protection that absorbs 2k-3k shadow damage and lasts for an hour.
