If I remember correctly, like some of the other 'secret' areas, you either have to be ported there by somebody already inside or use an ability like blink to get past the wall.

Previous guild I was in did a group 'photo' in old Ironforge.

Have a mage sheep someone by the door(on left when entering the king's room).  Sheep wanders around and goes through the wall.  Sheep breaks and you are behind the door with the passage way to old IF.  Do this for 3 people, 1 being a warlock and then start summoning folks in.

The sheeping part requires dueling and a bit of luck for the sheep wander aimlessly.

Might be able to blink past the wall but I think that doesn't work anymore.

That's correct - it involves sheeping (Fear may work also, but would require more luck I think). The trick for us was finding a place where we could /duel since it's disallowed in cities. There are at least two spots in IF where the channel switches to Dun Morogh and you can /duel - one of which is behind the bank pillars. We'd start the duel, then run all the way around to the king's room ... about ~7-8seconds of the running time is spent in the forfeit range, but you can make it into the king's room before the 10sec timer expires, placing you back into the duel.

was that mounting on your horse and running ? or just on-foot running? 

if the latter, i'd assume that the former would be substantially more efficient.
