Just wanted to pass word to everyone that I may not be on for a bit. Last night, I logged in briefly to finish up some quest turn-ins but after playing for about 15 mins with no problems, I got a d/c and have not been able to successfully log in since.

I tried deleting the cache files, logging in with different characters, and even use the repair utility but nothing has worked. In fact, the repair utility actually worsened things as it reported errors trying to repair the wow.exe file. After seeing that, I decided to uninstall the game and re-install from scratch but it's failing halfway through the install due to what it says are bad memory issues. Aside from this issue with WoW though, my PC appears to be running perfectly fine otherwise.

I'll continue to play around with it to see if I can resolve the issue but to say this is disappointing would be an understatement.  >:(

I got error messages too installing the game.  I had to copy the discs to my comp and install it from there.   The wow tech site has a walkthrough for this if u wanna try it

Thanks for the input. I actually did see that walkthrough and gave it a try but unfortunately, it didn't do anything to resolve the issue. Just gonna continue plugging away at it for now.

could be your ram from the sounds of it...make sure you have exactly the same brand and type of ram if you have multiple sticks in there...i know it might not be the most logical solution but who knows...could be even that one of your ram sticks has gone bad. If you have any other strange problems with your comp, post them, it might make it easier to pin down the problem.

I ran a Memory Diagnostics tool that I downloaded off the Microsoft website and all 3 of my memory sticks show failures. Since the odds are pretty low that all 3 sticks failed at the same time, it looks like a possible motherboard issue.

The odd thing is that aside from the issues I had with WoW that night and the inability to re-install that game, I see no other problems with my PC. I'm going to try to re-install some other games just to see if they give me problems as well.

Anyway, thanks again for the suggestions.

Hey all.

Just posting to let you all know that I was FINALLY able to successfully re-install the game today and log in again. It only took about 3 weeks to fix it too.   ;D

Haven't bought TBC yet but will probably do so once I get over my fear of "the Blizzard installer".  ;D

What ended up being the problem?

When it first happened, I tried everything to fix it but nothing seemed to work. Each time I tried, I would copy the CD files to my hard drive first before running the installer but I kept getting an error in one of the MPQ files about a third of the way through noting that faulty memory was the probable cause. Other than this one issue though, my PC was working perfectly fine.

I finally chalked it up to the improbable combination of bad luck getting a crippling error that prevented me from playing and a damaged disc that prevented me from re-installing it. So I shelved it for a couple weeks before trying again today using an older CD-ROM drive that I still had. Copies went smooth as did the installation and I was finally able to log back in.

Now if I can just remember what those icons in my action bars all mean again, I'll be all set. ;D
