"Oh yeah.. Its classed as an illness because he plays a Paladin. GG. "

omg, its aca ( a current affair, an australian show, much like 60 minutes and today tonight )

well, my name is ***** ( ur never gonna find out my real name mwahahahaha! =p ) and im a WoW addict.

and he played for just 12 hours longest???? ive played longer than that, cos ive just wanted to ....
( yes, im watching it, pausing it, then commenting as it goes along lol )
smashing bottles sounds like fun, ive never punched a whole in the wall as of yet, but thats only when im really cranky and its a hot day, im lagging, and the horde is farming me baaad...

lol,m can you hear the sound of money collecting while teh guy is going on abuot how he can walk away at any stage? woot, go looting =p

yea these various internet addictions vary from MSN, to MMORPG's ... to online FPS games like BF2, Counter Strike etc and alstly, porn ....

pfft, WoW is time moron ..... i play WoW to escape from the pressure of the real world, i mean i get to be a dwarf pally most weekends and sometimes during the week, i sure dont regret buying WOW, because, i met twilight, and you guys rock ....

yea, if he werent playing this, he would be out whoaring around ( sleepin around ), during drugs or spray painting trains ...

i heard about that chinese kid, now thata addicting, and thats really sad, killing yourself becuase he didnt get into a guild ...

well, atleast im still at school, one of my friends, well he used to be ( that merdril guy, remember the app lol ) he quit school so he could play WoW more

I saw a wow addict on TV - and his mum was all upset. It could be biased, but I've taught kids that are so obsessed with computer games that they don't do any sport, go down in their grades,  and socially don't interact very well.
I'd just disconnect the internet if my son was at home full time playing wow and being that rude to me- easier said then done..I know.
The wow addict said "It's my choice...my life"- yes- but if it affects others then you need to rethink.
Life is a gift and we should use it wisely...there is a time for playing wow and a time for other things - like helping your mum/wife/husband/kids/friends in real life.
It's fun to escape and play wow- and great fun to interract with Guildies and read these forums - but there has to be a balance.

Well that's my 10c worth.

bye for now...back to marking Maths projects. (wow is my reward if I get 5 projects marked)

P.S. I'm glad you didn't quit school Muri - that shows strength of character.  :)

my favorite lines are when he says the guild made him play for 12 hours, and when he bitches about someone stealing his kill....hilarious

im not saying anyone here is like that guy at all...just saw the topic of wow playing time hit the media and wanted to share it...

a little background about the DSM IV that she references...the DSM as she put it is the "bible" of psychological illness, it literally has all the illnesses a doctor could asay you have in it...

there are some major problems with this very stupid and very ridiculous book though (i saw that becuase my wife has a psych degree and i would always read her books and help her study when we were in school)...

1) they diagnosed homosexuality as a disease in the DSM III...by the time the DSM IV rolled out society had become less homophobic and stopped the whole "homosexuality is a mental disease that can be cured" crap, and left it out of the DSM IV...HOWEVER, in doing so, the association claimed to have permanently "cured" that disease..when in reality they just adjsted their social outlook...

2) The perfect example of DSM BS is: They have a mental disease in there called Premenstrual dysphoric disorder...here is how they diagnose this disease (taken from the DSM): "Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a condition marked by severe depression, irritability, and tension before menstruation."

WOW...I have NEVER, with all my girlfriends, wife, mom, sister, and female friends EVER had one of them exhibit these symptoms during their perdiod or before...i mean, cmon...who would get irritable before or during a perdiod? why would that thing make ANYBODY tense?

oh...but dont worry ladies...they have a pill for ya to cure this (and no, its not as benign as midol)

my take is this: the psych community wants to label anything a disease....WOW and internet addiction is their latst target, and im sure they will have an anti-wow pill at some point in the future, which the pharmeceuticals will reap MAJOR profits on...

16 hrs a day sounds more like work than play.
I get headaches if I play more than a few hours- I think 5 is my max. straight. So I'm definitely a casual gamer.
Anyhow- it's quality not quantity. :)
