Summer movies are here! I know that the male contingent of my family is going to collectively go see Spiderman on sunday, but lets look forward to what all of us 80's children are really looking forward to - Transformers.

I say look forward to, but really my expectation is for it to be a flaming pile of poo similar to "The Hulk", "Johnny Pnuemonic", or "Escape from LA".

I mean...what wasnt sufficiently said in the 1986 animated Transformers?!? Greats Orsen Welles, Judge Reinholt, and others reached the pinnacle of animated goodness in that film. it had the EPIC battle between Oprimus Prime and the decepticons that ended up with Optimus Prime falling, a HUGE planet devouring robot that provided the ultimate baddie, the same voice actors from the TV show (starscreams high pitched rasp, the tape player bad guy's deep voice, optimus prime's voice), great quotes like "Grimlok kick ASS", and that Dirk Digler inspired 80's music blaring in the background (who doesnt get chills when Optimus comes to bail out the earth base and "You've got the touch....you've got the power!!!!" starts blaring?)

Ill watch Transformers.....on HBO...a year from now....but I would like to offer one parallel as a closing: The animated "Street Fighter: The movie" was AWESOME...Ken gets mindcontrolled by M Bison, all the classic chars come in, and you get a great soundtrack including Alice in Chain's "Them Bones"...

COmpare this to "Street Fighter the movie" live action edition with Jean Claude van Suck....HORRIBLE...but oddly enough not as bad as the live action Street Fighter Video Game. Shoryuken!!!

ps: anyone who could link up a transformers "shifting" sound (both open and close) would be godly...i feel the need to have that play as I open and close programs LOL

have you seen the trailer for the new Transformers? I'm cautiously optimistic. For one they did get the same voice actor for Prime. Unfortunatly the guy who did Starscream's (and Cobra Commander's) died quite a few years a go. Chris somethin, I forget his last name. anyway... Michael Bay has chops to make this a winner, Its hit or miss with him though, he either makes really good films or really bad ones. I heard that they gave Optimist Prime "lips" and it looks funny, but we shall see.

and we know anything with John Turturro kicks arse.

One of my top five favorite movies, Dry...Miller's Crossing;D

Gotta love the John Turturro/Coen Brothers connections: Oh Brother (Pete), Miller's Crossing (Bernie), The Big Lebowski (Jesus)...he's great to watch anytime he's on the screen.

I am more a child of the 70s than 80s, so the Transformers hit when I was a little old for them. However, I may still see this movie in the theater if my son wants to see it. ;) Of course we have Spidey 3 followed closely by Pirates 3 this month...so hopefully we'll (my son, daughter and myself) be enjoying the early summer movies as a family.

Personally I'm also looking forward to the next Bourne installment...

well..it looks promising...but years of being excited by trailers only to be dissapointed by the movie has granted me some guarded optimism...

I am pleased to see Steven Spielberg's name attached to it...although Michael Bay's name being displayed so prominently next to the movie title worries me quite a bit...that means their big selling point isnt the subject material, but the director...you should be able to sell a movie on its content...i get a deja vu "Independence Day" feel from that trailer too which worries me...

DUDE...it never even dawned on me that cobra commander and starscream were voiced by the same guy, but that makes so much sense now...hehehe

not a turturo quotemaster, so I have no idea where that came from...

yeah "Miller's Crossing" was the movie that quote was from. See it along with every other Coen bros films :) Its an Irish mob movie, really cool.
