WOW, the expansion, and me.

This is how I see WOW right now. It's a fun game, but damn, it's too much like real life. For example professions, you have to spend several hours getting the materials you want to make for your stuff. That's like having a second job. Rep grinding, right now you may be exalted with a faction, but there's going to be another faction to grind rep with spending days slaughtering 10,000 furblogs or whatever they may be (5 rep per furblog and let's say you are hated by them when you started) or whatever to get that nice recipe. Heard epic flying mounts at 150% speed are going to be 5000g, at least that's what a beta tester reported. I have a hard time saving even 900g for an epic mount. I know the PVP system is getting fixed, but you can't get those GM/HWL type epics unless you're in a premade group.

Okay you probably know the rest, so I won't bore you. I do play this game a lot, and I've neglected stuff like riding the bus around town or watching my stockpile of DVDs that I have. That's why I'm thinking of doing something else when the expansion hits. A couple months ago, I had a thought that said, getting to 60 is good enough.

Well, whatever you decide to do, stick around on the forums!

Yep if you need to take a break and do other things, by all means do so.  Try to stay in touch though :)

Trouble is, I love this game so much I can't seem to put it down. I'm that hooked! Hehe. I can still go to work, do all the stuff I need to get done, but all my spare time is spent on here.

Darkling

Therein lies the problem. You don't take breaks. As addicted as I am, I do realize I need a break once in awhile. Even if it's only for a couple of days. Watch a movie, go shopping, do something to remind you of reality.

well...i understand your concern mag...balance is very important in life....I have two kids, a wife, and a full time job, so what I do is prioritze those items..during the week i wake up and enjoy my family, go to work, come home, devout time to my kids, put them down to bed, spend time with my wife (who likes to go to bed early)...THEN play wow..wow is defintiely on the bottom of the food chain, but it is important since its my only real "hobby"...you can balance your life mag...just takes some self restraint and being cogniscent of whats important to you

X2 I am in the exact same situation.. 2 kids married, etc.... Thats how I do it. In the evenings after the kids are asleep and I have had good time connecting with my wife, then I play. I do get free Saturday afternoons with an empty house usually, so that is my time to really go for it game wise. Otherwise its family and RL first, WOW when the time after allows for it.

Good strategy Arc, although you did say "devout" insead of "devote", so maybe your WoW addiction isnt completely suppressed.  ;)

I think those icons are starting to haunt Arc's dreams...

I personally don't have a wife or kids so I have plenty of free time:)  The couples in this guild definitely have a good situation though - I can imagine some angry wives/husbands who despise WoW's existence.  While I do love playing WoW, I have to get out of the house sometimes to go get some physical activity and culture in my life which is where that extra time comes in handy.  I can't speak from the family side of the issue but I believe in all aspects of life you just have to do what you feel is necessary to be happy and fulfilled.  If playing WoW 24/7 satisfies those needs, so be it.

My job is pretty active since I'm on my feet the whole time (except for waiting for the elevator to come up to my floor to pick me up), so it's not a desk job. I don't really have any friends (never have, and even though I've tried, hasn't really worked).

I am thinking once I get my own place that I get back into the other stuff I like do to, because it'll be more accessible. Right now I can't watch DVDs and such, because my dad's leg is still gimped (broken, actually) and he needs the TV.

Haha. You shoulda seen my ex-wife's reaction to WoW. She didn't mind the game at first until I started using TS and Vent. Whew. Never heard...wait...she still has a problem with it, so I still get to here her snide comments about WoW. She told me she didn't care about internet porn, magazines, w/e. But she despises WoW. :pumpk8:
